The P0022 Code “A” Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded Engine Control Module (Bank 2) P0022 is a OBD II trouble code which occurs due to some issues in the Bank 2’s intake camshaft timing and it is delayed than what PCM commands it to be. It can result at the time of advancing or retarding phase of the camshaft timing. The “A” camshaft refers to the intake, front or the left camshaft.
This code generally activates the Check Engine Light of the vehicle and it involves some other symptoms as well like hard starting, acceleration, bad idle and low fuel mileage and black smoke may
start emitting out of the tailpipe.
Generally, the notches or nodules are situated near the rear or middle of the shaft, which depends upon sensor placement. The crankshaft sensor on top of the transmission bell-housing can be placed and crankshaft position from interrupter holes in the flex plate should be read. Do a proper diagnosis to make sure that all engine timing indicators are properly aligned. Make sure that timing marks are aligned, test belt or chain deflection by using manufacturer’s specifications. Test the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) or VCT solenoids and circuitry if timing components prove to be properly aligned. Electrical wiring and connectors are more prone to fail than sensors, especially where oil or other corrosive fluids are present. You can diagnose this code using several tools. To perform a successful diagnosis, you can use an OBD-II scanner, a digital volt/ohmmeter and an oscilloscope.
